Today we continued reading "The Dead and the Gone" and "Life as we Knew it". Make sure that you are keeping up with your chapter questions and activities.

HW: Finish your questions and activities for your specific book (see below)
Reminders: Homeroom people make sure you wear purple and green for Field Day tomorrow. You may want to bring a change of clothes in case you get wet during the games. 
Honor's Invitations were given out this morning. If you received an invitation, make sure to give it to your parents so they can attend the Awards Ceremony on Monday!

The Dead and the Gone, Chapter 16
Read to learn how Alex tells the rest of his family about their upcoming trip.
  1. How does Alex know figure out that no one in the Upper West Side has left their apartments since Sunday?
  2. In the middle of the chapter, Alex acquires a ring, a gun, and a watch. Write two sentences about each of these items.
  3. How is it that a sled has become more valuable than a diamond ring?

  1. Make a list of at least 5 things that you think Alex needs to do to prepare for their trip downtown.
  2. Make a list of 5 of your family’s most important documents. 

Life As We Knew It, Fall, Chapter 17
Read to find out how winter weather causes problems for everyone.
  1. What simile does the author use on page 261 to describe Miranda’s situation? What two things are being compared?
  2. On the bottom of page 263 Miranda says that “there’s something frightening about this storm” even though they are all safe at home. Why do you think this is a scary event for her?
  3. What modification to their usual routine does Miranda’s family make at the end of the chapter? In what way does this improve their day?
