We also took our second quiz on Minerals that required us to look at different minerals and identify luster, cleavage, fracture, hardness, and density. We also had time to finish our lab sheets in class. HW: Finish your lab sheet if you were unable to finish it in class today! Remember the back should also be complete (you can leave mineral 1 and 2 blank) Unit 1 Test is Friday! Tomorrow we will be finishing this lab in class! HW: Wanted Posters are due tomorrow! Make sure you have selected one of your minerals and completed this short but thought-provoking assignment. 1. Complete your mineral project packet. Be sure that you have EVERYTHING filled out, two pictures that are colored, sources (where you got your information) that do not include Google or Wikipedia, and that it is very neat.
2. Once you are done, come to Ms. Dudek or the sub and have us check to make sure that it is completely done and filled in. You will then get a WANTED poster for you to choose out of your two minerals to complete. Remember to fill in the following: Name: Name of the Mineral AKA: Chemical Formula Gang: Mineral Group (Silicates, etc) Reward: Based on the average value of your mineral Crime: Something to do with your minerals uses Picture: Colored, neat, and creative. These will be hung in the hallway so make sure they are high quality work. 3. Once you are done, you may work on your stations since they were due today! The document is in the blog post below. 4. If you feel that you are completely done with the 'Wanted Poster', keep it until it is due (8/31) and grab an article from Ms. Dudek about the new planet. Formulate 5 questions to ask your peers from the article and write it on a separate piece of paper. This is extra credit and may be used on an upcoming test. 5. Study for your upcoming test on Friday!! Use your natural resource guide, minerals guide, our last quiz, and any other work in your science folder to help you. Please keep in mind that your Unit 1 folder will also be due on FRIDAY! Today we finished our Mineral Inquiry Stations and also our crystal lab! We will check in on them on Monday and also get to work on our mineral project. HW: Finish your Mineral Stations! See you at Food Truck Night tonight at 5:30!!!
Day 1 Crystals are already forming!
Today we went to the computer lab and did research on our mineral projects! We will go to the computer lab for the last day on Monday since it is due on Tuesday :). We also went over WHY silicates are the most common group of minerals. Do you know why??

We went over the uses of mineral from last night, we also turned in our 'Is it a rock or a mineral lab', we completed the rest of our mineral notes, started on our mineral stations, and even started a crystal lab! HW: STUDY! (we do NOT have a quiz tomorrow but you need to study) Work on your mineral project which is due 8/30 Picture day is tomorrow! Make sure you bring money if you plan on purchasing pictures, or just be ready to take your yearbook photo :)
Today we quickly reviewed the 5 characteristics of minerals then we completed a lab to figure out if we could tell if an item was a rock, mineral, or neither! We also had time to look at our homework which goes over the uses of some minerals. HW: Finish the Uses of Minerals Sheet (back of your lab sheet from today) Mineral Project is due 8/30 Other Announcements: Basketball work outs started today and will be on Thursday for boys and girls from 4:30-6:30 6th Grade Boy Basketball Tryouts are 8/30 and 9/2 at 4:30 6th grade Girl Basketball Tryouts are 8/30 and 9/2 at 6:00 Friday Night Lights/Food Trucks are THIS Friday! Picture day is Thursday (yearbook photos will be taken)
Today we went to the computer lab. As some of you know, we will not have a milestone assessment for 6th grade Science this year. Therefore, we are measuring growth of each student based on a county made pre and post test. Each student was able to take the pre-test today. After we took this assessment, we were able to research our two minerals for our mineral project. Please be advised that this project is due 8/30/16.
