Friday you completed your Skittles Lab with Ms. Johnson, as I was out Friday for my brother's wedding (so exciting!). Today we took our SMG/SLO pre-test from the county along with our Astronomy pre-test. We also got our first word search. These will be used for house points this year, so the more students that complete it in your class period, the more points you get!
HW: Finish word search for House Points! Geocentric vs. Heliocentric Edpuzzle due THURSDAY
Today we finished our bubble gum lab and saw that the more sweetener a piece of gum has, the more its mass will decrease when chewed. We also completed our metric flip books to have for us to reference throughout the year when conducting measurements.
HW: Finish Metric Book if not in class (1st period, you guys are good to go) Make sure you are registered correctly with Edpuzzle For your flipbook, you need the following: Centimeter ruler: put the ruler up to the object. Start from the zero end of the ruler and one side of the object. Look at the ruler to find the length and write down the number where the side of the object ends. It measures LENGTH Units of METERS Graduated Cylinder: Fill the graduated cylinder with water to a set amount and remember that amount. Drop your object into the graduated cylinder and see the number on the side. Subtract the original amount of liquid from the amount that it now reads with the object in it. This will tell you the volume of the object. It measures VOLUME Units of LITERS Triple Beam Balance: Put an object on the tray. Move the riders to the right until the pointer is at the dash on the right hand side of the beam. Add up all the numbers of where the three riders are located to see the mass of the object. It measures MASS Units of GRAMS Today we worked on our Bubble Gum Lab by measuring the mass of our gum before and after we chewed it. Tomorrow we will finish our lab and learn a little more about the metric system. HW: Lab Safety Edpuzzle is due TOMORROW!
Today we looked at lab safety by taking a quick assignment on Socrative that will go into the grade book. We also looked at how to use a triple beam balance in preparation for our Bubble Gum lab tomorrow.
