Today we took a break from natural resources and did a quick overview of the moon phases. It is important to understand the moon phases in order to understand eclipses. Can't wait for Monday! HW: Look at the moon once over the weekend. What phase is it??

Today we finished up our natural resource inquiry stations. Hopefully you were able to get ALL of them done and have some time to play on Legends of Learning to practice natural resources. HW: Finish stations if not already in class Picture day tomorrow!
Today we turned in our Natural Resources Lab, then got started on our natural resources inquiry stations. Hopefully you were able to get 4 out of the 8 stations done, so you are halfway through!
HW: None! Make sure you do not have any missing work. Grades are updated in the grade book on ParentVue and StudentVue Tomorrow is Open House at 5:15 in the Media Center Picture day is FRIDAY! Today we went over common uses of rocks and minerals. We also completed a short Natural Resources Lab by looking at different items to see if they were natural, resources, natural resources, and if so if they are renewable or nonrenewable. HW: Finish your Natural Resource Lab by explaining how you know what you know on the back! 3rd period: None!
Today we discussed natural resources and the difference between renewable and nonrenewable resources. We also turned in our sugar cube lab, skittles graphing, and had some time to work on our HW. Tomorrow we will have a lab over natural resources so make sure you get your edpuzzle done!! HW: Rock and Mineral uses handout Edpuzzle on Natural Resources if you haven't watched it yet Turn in Eclipse permission slip to your 4th period teacher
Today I was not here, so you had an individual assignment to practice your graphing and analyzing skills. You should have had skittles in a cup, or a colored sheet of paper to tell you how many of each color you had. Make sure you complete this!! HW: Finish Sugar Cube Lab (due MONDAY!) Natural Resources Edpuzzle Skittles Graphing Lab
Today we went to the computer lab and took our SLO Pre-test. This is a quick overview of the entire year. We will take this test again in May to see how we have progressed. We also finished our graph for our sugar cube lab. If you are not done, this is due MONDAY! Make sure you have 10 lab rules in your 'lab safety' section, your graph with two lines, and the answers to your conclusion questions.
HW: Finish Sugar Cube Lab Natural Resources Edpuzzle (due SUNDAY night!)
Congrats! You are done with your SLO pre-test for 6th grade science. Get out your sugar cube lab in order to complete your graph. These steps will walk you through it: Step 1: Label your x-axis with the group numbers Step 2: Label your y-axis with the time in seconds (make 10 second increments, I MESSED UP!!) You may need to add another row at the top Step 3: Make a Key to show which color will represent your SOLID sugar cube and your WEATHERED sugar cube Step 4: Start graphing your points for each group. Graph ALL the points FIRST (I put a 'break' in the axis because I didn't start at zero. You can do that too if you want) Step 5: Connect the dots that are the SAME color Step 6: You're done with your graph! Now answer the conclusion questions below on your sheet:
•Did the sugar dissolve at the same rate during both trials? Explain why or why not. •Do you think one large rock or several smaller rocks would wear away faster? Explain your answer. •Was your hypothesis correct? If not, what is your new IF… THEN statement? Today we turned in our lab safety projects and completed our Sugar Cube Lab. This is a preview to the Rock Cycle and turned out great. We will complete the graphing portion in class tomorrow, so do not worry about filling that out. HW: None :) Make sure you have a composition notebook for 'Do Nows' and a folder for Unit 1 by now
Today we had team talks in the morning (so 1st period, you will take your pretest tomorrow). We went over our bubble gum lab results, took our pre-test for unit 1 and also made a metric flip book to help us remember the units and types of measurement involved with the metric system.
HW: Finish metric flip book Lab Safety Project due TOMORROW!!!! For your flipbook, you need the following: Centimeter ruler: put the ruler up to the object. Start from the zero end of the ruler and one side of the object. Look at the ruler to find the length and write down the number were the side of the object ends. It measures LENGTH Units of METERS Graduated Cylinder: Fill the graduated cylinder with water to a set amount and remember that amount. Drop your object into the graduated cylinder and see the number on the side. Subtract the original amount of liquid from the amount that it now reads with the object in it. This will tell you the volume of the object. It measures VOLUME Units of LITERS Triple Beam Balance: Put an object on the tray. Move the riders to the right until the pointer is at the dash on the right hand side of the beam. Add up all the numbers of where the three riders are located to see the mass of the object. It measures MASS Units of GRAMS |
