Friday HW: Work on Performance Tasks Tomorrow, you will have a sub, so I am pushing the performance task due date to MONDAY. So yes, you will have an extra weekend to get it done. You DO NOT have to do #6 since we haven't gone over identifying minerals yet. We will do that next week. Monday, we will be going to the lab again to finish up our mineral brochures since they are due next Tuesday. PLEASE make sure that you bring a flash drive so you can take your brochure home and work on it if you need to. If you want me to print it out using color, you will need to e-mail it to me. Today we had a full day in the Science Lab. We calculated density of aluminum, steel, brass, copper, acrylic, wood, nylon and PVC. It was great practice to understand that density is mass divided by volume! We also found out that cooper was the densest out of all of these items and wood was the least dense. HW: Work on your performance tasks. They are due FRIDAY! We will go to the computer lab tomorrow to finish up our Mineral Brochures. Have a great evening and hope to see you at Chik-Fil-A night :)
Today we starting making crystals with table salt and Epsom salt. We will see how they change over the next couple of days. HW: Watch the Density video below and fill in your Density notes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQ7HF5AcH7o Please know that your performance tasks are due Friday and your Mineral Brochure is due next Tuesday (9/1). We will be going back to the computer lab Thursday to finish them up.
Today we went to the computer lab to continue to work on our mineral research to eventually make our brochures. Remember, this is due September 1st. HW: Watch the video below and fill in the Minerals Guide that was given to you in class. YOU WILL ONLY FILL OUT THE TOP LEFT SIDE OF YOUR NOTES! Save the sheet for one of the videos coming up. Have a great evening! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9VjDdCVIy1s
WOW! This week flew by :) Today we discussed the difference between renewable and nonrenewable and also the difference between natural and non-natural. For example: paper is renewable because it is made from trees (which is a natural renewable resource) but it is NOT natural because it is man-made. Aluminum is nonrenewable because it is made from minerals but it IS natural because it is not man-made. We also started working on our mineral project! Students will be making a brochure to inform their classmates about their chosen mineral. Each person picked a mineral today to research and starting looking up information needed for their brochure. This project is due SEPTEMBER 1st (so PLENTY of time to complete it). We will be working on this project in the computer lab three other times before it is due. HW: NONE!! Enjoy your weekend and go see our Jr. Wildcats play at 9:00am on Saturday for their first game. OPTIONAL: If you need some help on your project, watch the videos below for some uses of minerals. I know I mention there is a hand-out, but we already completed it so don't worry about it. REMINDER: Performance Tasks are due August 28th. We will also have time to work on these in class next week, so don't stress :)
I enjoyed seeing everyone that came out to Back to School Night last night! If you were unable to make it, homeroom went over how to check grades on ParentVue, Blackboard Connect to get announcements from the school, Dress Code, and Student Activities. I have also attached the power point that I presented to my Math and Science class for your viewing. Parents and Guardians, hope you had a great time!
Today we took our first quiz on Natural Resources.
HW: Finish the Math Connections Sheet. Note: Performance Tasks are due on the 28th See you all tonight at Back to School Night! Today we did a lab to see what was natural or not, a resource or not, or if it is renewable or nonrenewable. Make sure you finish the back of your lab sheet by answering the questions on the front. HW: Finish Natural Resource Lab Sheet and Study for Quiz tomorrow! **ALSO: If you want to know what we did in class from the perspective of a student, Noblevine has made his OWN blog! You can access it by clicking below and then going to his Science Blog, or going to the science resource page and scroll down to the bottom. http://noblevino.weebly.com/
Good Evening! Today we took a tour of minerals to see what minerals we use almost daily. Isn't it weird that car batteries are made of minerals like galena? HW: Fill in your Natural Resources Study Guide and watch the flipped video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAQmnxxWVw8
